oil paintings of California, Southwest Landscapes
Denise Natanson Marcus is an artist who has always wished to express the deep, peaceful beauty of nature through her paintings. She had classical training at Boston University School of Fine Arts, and has painted representationally for 50 years, but she has always been drawn to the California artists and their contemporary realism, as well as the Impressionists. This has influenced her composition and sense of light in her paintings.
Denise has studied & taught meditation for as many years as she has painted. This is an important part of her life, & has informed her work.
She has studied with a few masters of contemporary landscape and of color, including Henry Hensche & Wolf Kahn, which has changed her palette dramatically over the years.
"My goal is to capture the light of California and the West. I hope the viewer can enter the painting and be transported to a particular place, season and time of day. That this will be a peaceful place, a meditation, as it was to me when I painted it". - Denise Natanson-Marcus
